I'll summarize related methods, and then explain a new approach that achieves 2nd order accuracy for both solution values and their gradients on arbitrary quadtrees. The central idea is to use a new diagonal (i.e., non-axis-aligned) construction for interpolating the"ghost" values needed to provide accurate discrete gradient and divergence operators near complex T-junction configurations that arise in quadtrees.
