Color plays a vitally important role in the world we live in. Life with only black, white and grey would be extremely dull and possibly unbearable. Color fascinates artists, for it adds enormously to aesthetic appreciation. Artists manipulate color in their design to provoke thoughts, convey emotions and induce feelings. Color also fascinates scientists. For decades, scientists in color imaging, printing and digital photography strive to satisfy people's increasing demands for accuracy in color reproduction. I am interested in all aspects of color: history, theory and applications. In particular, I study
- Color Theory and Design: color theory and design principles in arts, computer vision and graphics
- Color and Image Reproduction: accurately reproduce color under different illumination conditions
- Display Technology: building displays that adapts to viewing conditions
- Color Appearance Models: use of mathematical models to take into consideration the effect of illumination and
chromatic adaptation on image appearance
- Fluorescence and Composite Objects: predict the color of fluorescent objects under different illumination
