My name is Craig Steven Kaplan. On Hallowe'en 2002, I received my PhD in Computer Science at the University of Washington. Despite all the years and hard work implied by this accomplishment, I am told that I take a long time to put on my shoes. Let history judge me as it will.

In January of 2003, I started at the University of Waterloo as an assistant professor in the School of Computer Science. I now have a fledgling home page there. By the end of March, all the content you see here will be moved there, with some possible reorganization that might break your links. Attempts to access my web pages at Washington will be redirected to Waterloo; I won't disappear into the ether. Together, I know that we can make through this difficult and trying period of transition.

• I'm currently doing research with David Salesin in the computer graphics group. My research focuses on the uses of computer graphics and geometry in the creation of art and ornament.
• Before that, I did some work with Craig Chambers in the area of programming languages.
• For a brief time, I also conducted some in-depth research into the endlessly fascinating world of Boggle.
• For an even briefer time, I explored the dissociated web: the statistical generation of web pages.
• I also have an interest in visual programming languages. In 1997, I developed a simple graphical environment for experimenting with dataflow-based visual programs. You might enjoy looking at three examples: determinant, xor, abstraction.
