Well, it was two cats. When the shelter gives you cats, they're supposed to come all prepared: spayed, vaccinated, wormed and so on. Well, the shelter missed at least one of those. Apparently, the vet responsible for taking care of incoming cats mistakenly believed Ginkgo to have already been spayed. Well, we now know she wasn't, and that when we got her she must have been just starting a pregnancy.

On April fourth 1999, Ginkgo gave birth to a single white blob of fur, which eventually resolved itself into a kitten. Arlo (as he is now called) is a totally cool cat, and we got to be there from day one.
