I am an Assistant Professor in the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science at the University of Waterloo. I joined the faculty at Waterloo in June, 2006. Prior to joining the faculty at Waterloo, I worked as:
- an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at San Francisco State University (2002 - 2006).
- a Post-Doctoral Intern at Xerox's Palo Alto Research Center (2001).
- the Chief Technical Officer of MediaShell, a Queen's University spin-off company (2000 - 2001).
- an Adjunct Professor at Queen's University (1997 - 2001).
I received my Ph.D. in Computer Science from Queen's University in 2001 under the supervision of Dorothea Blostein. My undergraduate degree is in Honours Physics, and I also have a minor in Computer Science and a Diploma in Engineering, all awarded by the University of Prince Edward Island in 1994.

Awards
I have been fortunate enough to receive several awards during my academic career including:
- National Science Foundation (NSF) Career Award, the NSF's most prestigious award for young faculty (2004).
- Centre of Excellence for Information Technology of Ontario (CITO) Award for excellence in graduate student research (2001).
- Best Paper Award and Best Student Paper Award at the IBM-sponsored Centre for Advanced Studies Conference, CASCON (2000).
- Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) Post-Graduate Scholarships for both Masters and Doctoral studies (1994 - 1998).
- Governor General's Medal (Undergraduate) from UPEI for placing first in my graduating class.
