Inferior Ice Cream

Good ice cream is made from healthy, natural ingredients.
Commercial ice cream by necessity adds chemicals to
improve the shelf life, etc., of the ice cream. However,
there are chemicals and there are chemicals. And there
is contaminated ice cream (a tradition started last
century by Hokey-Pokey sellers; see
Funderburg's book
for details on contaminated cream, etc. in days long gone).
The list of manufacturers of cheap, inferior ice cream is beyond the
scope of this page. I will, however, include a few snippets
describing what goes into cheap ice cream, and I will include
citations to any contaminated ice cream that gets mention in
the news.
