The city of Amsterdam is a maze of canals. The central city
has the most canals, with fewer canals as you go to the outer
parts of the city. I found it nice to walk along the canals,
except the sidewalk isn't so good for walking (it's too narrow
and often blocked by various things), forcing you to walk in
the street. Walking in the streets along side the canals is
okay, but you need to keep an eye open for cars and bikes.
You can also take boats along the canals. I took one with my wife when she visited. I was unimpressed with the trip. I would have liked to have one at night tour of the canals, but never got around to it.
