** Forbidden City

Last Updated: September 18, 1998
The forbidden city is just off Tian'an Men square. Originally dating from the 1200's, the city was home to 24 Emperors. Entrance was forbidden to the masses (and thus the name).

The Forbidden City is huge. It really is a city. The buildings are impressive at first (this was our first tourist stop), but most of them look the same. There are museums inside the city that are worth going to.

If you only spend half a day here, you went too fast and probably missed a lot of the city (we missed 1/3 of the city). I enjoyed walking around and looking at the architecture and city layout.
