Hong Qiao
Last Updated: September 25, 1998
Hong Qiao is a mall across from the East gate to the Temple of
Heaven. The lower floors are mostly goods for daily living
(although we did find some t-shirts here). But the top floor
is a well known tourist market. The center section has dozens
of pearl vendors, and I learned a bit about pearls (fresh water
pearls are inexpensive, but are not very spherical; salt water
pearls are spherical, and much more expensive).
On either end of this floor are a wide variety of tourist shops,
selling all sorts of paraphernalia. A good place to shop to
pick up those final few gifts in your last days in Beijing
(which is what we did).
