Lugouqiao Bridge
Last Updated: September 22, 1998
When we returned to Beijing from
Shihuadong Cave, we stopped by
Lugouqiao Bridge, also known as the Marco Polo Bridge
because Marco Polo described it in his book.
The bridge has stone posts spaced about 3 meters apart,
each topped with a stone lion (we estimated over 500 lions,
although Lonely Planet says 485).
This bridge is where the Japanese started shooting at the
Chinese in 1937, marking the entry of China into the
Second World War.
