The evening's program started with someone singing "If you're happy and you know it" (in Chinese, of course). And there were a few jugglers and a contortionist. But most of the evening's entertainment was Beijing Opera. We didn't get the costumes or hand gestures, just the singing. The locals loved it, clapping wildly after just snippets had been sung. I'm glad they had this opera singing, mainly because it made me very glad that we did not go to an actual Beijing Opera - I don't know if I could take more than half an hour of that stuff (although the costumes would have been worth seeing).
