Quality

In China, a lot of the goods have flaws and you are quality control. The procedure for buying something is to first haggle over the price (where appropriate) and once the price is "settled" you inspect the item very closely.

At a department store, if something is wrapped or in a box, take it out (the store clerk will usually help you with this, and they expect people to inspect items closely, so don't be shy). If it's not perfect (or good enough for you), try another one.

For a street vendor, if there are flaws, try another one, or use the flaws to bargain the price down, or walk away.
