Bruce Peninsula National Park

Up
Cyprus Lake is the main camp ground (actually, three campgrounds) in the Bruce Peninsula National Park. We didn't make a reservation for a camp site and just drove up and asked if they had any. We were lucky: it had been raining the day before and threatening to rain the day we arrived and the next day, and there were cancellations. We were told we got the last camp site, but I suspect there may have been a few more cancellations.

Alas, we didn't have much space left on our digital camera, and snapped very few pictures of the park. If you go, I recommend taking the Horse Lake Trail to Georgian Bay, then follow the coastal path to Halfway Rock, Indian Head Cove, and the Grotto, and then continue along the coast to take the Marr Lake Trail back. If you want to go on a bit longer hike, before turning back on the Marr Lake Trail, continue on the Bruce Trail to the Overhanging Point. The point isn't marked, but it's moderately obvious. Look around and you will find a hole in the ground that leads to the rock under the overhang. It's a bit of a climb down, but it's not too bad.

When I went on this hike (from 6 to 8 in the morning), the wind was up, the waves were pounding the shore, and no one was around. It was a marvelous hike!

Shortly before we left, I noticed a woman walking a ferret.
