Independent Paintings
This page shows a few paintings I have finished that is not done
for school. I hope to have more of these in the future!
The images are scanned from photos and slides of the artwork,
so the colour, size etc is probably more than a little distorted.
For some pieces I was unable to get rid of the glare from the
varnish as well.
Click on the images for a larger version of the painting.
Comments, suggestions, criticisms are more than
welcome! If you wish to know when my artwork is updated, let
me know and I'll notify you when I add new pieces.

in my aunt Maria's house |

This is a portrait of my aunt's dog Chewy. I painted him a
tad chubbier than he really is, but he mostly look like that.
Chewy is a pomeranian. I took this as a gift to my aunt
when I stayed with her on a visit to San Jose.

I always like the way mushrooms look, and having a mushroom
as a shelter just seems to make sense. This is hopefully the
first of many little paintings featuring a ferret taking shelter
under some edible mushroom.
The ferret here is loosely based on a photo of Birch.
I wanted to finish it in time for the symposium
and I had a deadline for my independent study, so
I did not have enough time to make the ferret look like Birch. I'm
not unhappy with the result, given the short amount of time I had to
finish it. I end up carrying it on the plane to Las Vegas because
the painting hasn't quite dried yet! I'm really happy with the
feedback I got at the symposium, and I hope to do more paintings for
SOS in the future.

Clouded agaric mushroom ferret |

gift to Dr. Wellehan (UGuelph) |

This is supposed to be Sand standing under a clouded agaric mushroom.
I got a bit of feedback from Art on this painting, there are a few things
wrong with it. The main problem is that the foreground isn't consistently
out of focus. I didn't have time to fix it since I finished it the
week Dr. Wellehan was going to end his internship at Guelph. He did
a lot for my ferrets, so I hope he enjoys this little memento.

Bleeding hearts |

oil on canvas |

gift to Dr. Boutette (UGuelph) |

This is supposed to be Sabre standing under some bleeding hearts.
I found out a week before he left that Dr. Boutette's intership
was ending, so I didn't have a lot of time to get the painting right.
Sabre was Dr. Boutette's favourite ferret patient.
