Animation

Now that the model is complete, it can be animated. An animation is made up of many still images played one after another. It can take up to 30 images (called frames) to make up 1 second of animation. 3 minutes of animation would take 5400 frames!

Suppose you want the dog puppet to go from a standing position to a hunting position in 1 second. Imagine if you have to draw all 30 images! We can draw the first and last image. These are called key frames:

The computer will calculate the in-between images for us:

In real life, a director has a story they want animators to follow. This is given to the animators as a story board, which is usually hand drawn. The animators animate according to this story board.

Here are the key frames that might have come from the storyboard.
